Why is the UVV inspection of power-operated gates and doors necessary?
In accordance with the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) and the German Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG), management and the board of directors are responsible for the safety of their employees and all visitors on their premises. Accordingly, they must also ensure that only safe doors, gates, and windows are in use to prevent accidents caused by improper opening and closing. To be classified as safe, regular inspections by qualified personnel, specifically a competent person according to TRBS 1203, are necessary – and legally mandatory. The inspection requirement for power-operated gates, doors, windows, and especially fire doors, arises specifically from Section 3 Paragraph 3 of the BetrSichV, the accident prevention regulations (UVV), and the Technical Rules for Workplaces ASR A1.7 Doors and Gates and ASR A1.6 Windows, Skylights, Translucent Walls.
Power-operated means that the energy required to open and close the leaves is supplied entirely or at least partially by power-driven mechanisms. Examples of such gates and doors include:
Sectional doors
Roller doors
Swing gates
Sliding gates and doors
