Competent person
for the UVV inspection of fixed ladders
according to DGUV I 208-032

Permanently installed and usually vertical – or nearly vertical – ladders are standard equipment in most industrial plants and manufacturing facilities. Therefore, it almost goes without saying that they, too, are subject to mandatory regular safety inspections by a qualified person. The German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) has summarized what needs to be considered regarding ladders as work equipment in its information sheet 208-032 – and this information can be comprehensively covered in the corresponding online course offered by the LTS Academy.
Why and how often every ladder must be inspected using UVV testing
According to the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), the installation and use of a fixed ladder in companies is only the preferred option if installing a staircase is not technically feasible, due to the higher risk of falls and greater physical exertion. Based on a necessary risk assessment, fixed ladders can be chosen, in particular, if access is only required occasionally (e.g., for maintenance work) by a small number of trained employees. However, a prerequisite is that a qualified person inspects the fixed ladder for proper function at least once a year. The DGUV checklist "Periodic Inspection of Fixed Ladders" should serve as the basis for the inspection and documentation – and our training course should be used for introduction or refresher courses.
