Lifting and rigging equipment includes freely movable connecting elements such as ropes, chains, webbing slings, lifting straps, and round slings, as well as detachable connecting parts like shackles or swivels. When using these items, their maximum permissible load capacity, which must be indicated on each lifting and rigging device, must be observed. According to the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV), verification of this capacity by a qualified person is mandatory before each use of the various lifting and rigging devices. Furthermore, these devices must undergo a thorough inspection by a competent expert at least once a year and, for example, after repairs, and this inspection must be properly documented. You can acquire or refresh the necessary qualifications to become a qualified person for inspecting lifting and rigging equipment without significant cost or time investment by taking the UVV (accident prevention regulations) inspector training course offered by the LTS Academy.

Why lifting and load-bearing equipment requires careful inspection

Inspection by a qualified person is crucial because lifting gear such as ropes and slings, which connect the lifting device to the load or load-bearing device, are subjected to considerable tension, especially during lifting operations. Therefore, they must not be pulled unprotected over sharp edges of the load during attachment – if they break, not only will the load fall to the ground, but the lifting gear itself will become uncontrollably flying hazards. Regular inspection of lifting gear and load-bearing devices also determines whether they have reached the end of their service life and must be disposed of. This should also be done if the manufacturer's markings or load capacity specifications are missing.

You can complete up to three UVV modules (examiner qualifications) per course day.

In just one day of in-person training at the LTS Academy, you can acquire the necessary qualifications to become a certified safety inspector for up to three different modules. For example, if you want to be a qualified person not only for lifting equipment but also responsible for safety inspections of cranes or perhaps winches, hoists, and pulling devices , this is easily achievable. To prepare for the training day, we provide you with e-learning modules beforehand, where you will learn the fundamentals of the required expertise as well as the relevant regulations. This ensures optimal preparation, allowing you to complete the relatively comprehensive training program in a comparatively short time during the in-person session.

Requirements:

Completed technical vocational training or other technical qualification that enables the participant to inspect and assess the work equipment, as well as demonstrable practical experience with the work equipment (TRBS1203).
